Helping Gifted and Talented children to achieve their full potential involves a combination of innate talent, family support, expert teaching and a desire on the part of the student to work hard enough to fulfil their goals. Agora Lledó International School’s workshops for Gifted and Talented children provide students with the tools that they need to accelerate their learning and develop their abilities based upon their individual characteristics and the specific needs of each member of the group.
The Gifted and Talented programme is led by Nerea López, a psychologist specialising in helping high-functioning children and adolescents, and also in training and advising teaching staff of the best ways to facilitate learning for children with this profile. The programme has three main phases: detection, identification and intervention. At the workshops, children learn techniques for managing frustration, exploring creativity, building self-esteem, connecting with other members of the group and working on their personal development.
Children with exceptional abilities can also demonstrate behaviours that can be surprising, perplexing or concerning and it can be challenging to assimilate these behaviours, and the particular needs of that child, into a family environment. Agora Lledó International School’s Gifted and Talented programme includes a parental session each month, run by Nerea López, which is designed to address some of these issues and to help parents and families to understand the wide range of issues that can be associated with bringing up gifted children.
