Sport plays a fundamental role in our students’ education: it nurtures their social skills and makes them aware of the values implicit in sport in a natural way: respect, effort, tolerance, camaraderie, discipline, perseverance and teamwork, to mention just a few. At Agora Lledó International School we promote both physical development as well as development of the mind to attain a balance between health and intellectual growth.
At Agora Lledó International School we have a sports centre that covers an area of 6.700 m2 with all the facilities needed to comfortably practice all the sports available at the school: a half-Olympic indoor swimming pool, a children’s pool, a sports hall with 8 changing rooms, 2 saunas, a dance room, a coaches room, an physiotherapy clinic, and outdoor courts and pitches for football, mini-basketball, basketball and tennis, as well as two artificial turf football pitches.
We play all kinds of sports at the school, so pupils can choose their favourite one: basketball, football, tennis, gymnastics, swimming and volleyball, among others. Our top sport is swimming, because of it being one of the most complete sports, and it is done by the pupils throughout the whole of their school life. We must point out that we have 3 clubs that are national federation members: gymnastics, football and swimming. These clubs compete on a national level and obtain excellent results, an example being several girls who have become Spanish rhythmic gymnastics champions.
During the academic year our students participate in various sporting events organised both by our own school and by the NACE Schools group, which promote sport, healthy competition and an international education. Thanks to these events pupils interact with students from other schools and countries while they enjoy and share passion for sport. The best example of this are the NACE Olympic Games: international Olympic Games which bring over 500 sportspeople together from the different schools around the world.
Finally, pupils who are keen to play a sport professionally can take part in our ADE programme adapted for elite sportspeople. This is a system where timetables and subjects are adapted so that pupils who compete can build their sporting career without it affecting their studies, getting good results in both. Agora Lledó has offered this programme since the launch of the school in 2001, and deals with each student individually through a tutor who, along with the family, adapts and coordinates academic matters with their sporting requirements.
“Recognition of certain subjects gives me precious time that I dedicate to the study and to the duties that I can’t do at home due to the afternoon I train 3 to4 hours a day. When a competition coincides in the same date that an exam, the teachers, gladly, advances or slow down me the examinations in order that it could organize better my time and to study to obtain a few good academic results, beside being able to center in the competition.”
